Anders Björling

Anders Björling is the eldest son of Jussi and
Anna-Lisa, and a perusal of his mother's story in Jussi shows that he was able to
be present at many of his father's most famous concerts and performances during the 1940s and
1950s. Best of all were the summers on Siarö, when the family could all be together, away from
the pressures of Jussi's career.
Anders came to
Minnesota as a third-year college student at Gustavus Adolphus College in 1956. There he met
his future wife, Janet Neidt, a student from Iowa.
After graduation
with degrees in economics and business administration, Anders and Janet traveled to Sweden
where Anders worked for a shipping company. In the early 1960s they returned to Minnesota where
Anders joined the administration of Gustavus Adolphus College. (This institution has some
excellent buildings named to honor famous Swedes such as Alfred Nobel and Folke Bernadotte;
however, the Björling concert hall there is truly special - a beautiful
facility.)
Over the years,
Anders has presented many talks about Jussi across the country, and now that he has retired, he
plans to maintain WebPages on Jussi-related events. He and Janet also operate a shop in St.
Peter- Swedish Kontur Imports- with Swedish glass and wood art items as well as a good
selection of CDs and books about Swedish music (specializing in a certain
tenor).
